Congressman begs Feds: let immigrant stay

There's an illegal immigrant who's facing deportation, but if one Illinois congressman has anything to do with it, he'd allow the man to stay because of his status as a father and a non-criminal. Will that be enough?

Can anyone stop deportation?

They say every person has a guardian angel. One South Carolina man’s comes in the form of an Illinois congressman who’s traveled to Charleston to beg for the South Carolina man’s freedom.

According to a News 2 report, the man is facing deportation, but Democratic rep Luis Gutierrez hopes that his job as a landscaper and status as a father of two U.S. citizens will help him get the case closed. The man also has a clean record, which Gutierrez hopes will benefit his case.

Gutierrez and the man will attend a hearing on Wednesday before Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in Charleston.

Records show more than 1,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records have been deported from South Carolina under the Secure Communities Program but that illegal immigrants posing no security risk, and are classified in a dozen or so categories may stay.
